Using Guides in Formalize

Guides provide a step-by-step roadmap for implementing regulations, industry standards, and legislation using Formalize features. Use Guides to understand how specific platform modules support your compliance and governance requirement

How to Access and Structure Guides

Navigating to Guides

  1. From the main sidebar menu, go to Guidance -> My guides.

  2. Select the Guide corresponding to the regulation or standard you are implementing (e.g., ISO 27001, GDPR, NIS2).

Guide Structure: Themes and Sub-themes

Each Guide is organized into logical compliance areas called Themes (e.g., Governance Framework, Risk Assessment).

  1. Click on any Theme to expand its underlying Sub-themes.

  2. Click View next to a theme or sub-theme to open its detailed guidance panel.

Inside the guidance panel, you will find:

  • Regulatory Context: Clear explanations of what the regulation requires.

  • Actionable Data Connections: Direct links to relevant Formalize modules (such as Policies, Framework Controls, or Tasks) required to fulfill that step.

  • Interactive Checkboxes: Checkboxes next to each theme to help you track implementation progress.

Executing Implementation Steps

Data Connections bridge regulatory requirements with practical implementation:

  1. Click on any referenced Data Connection inside a theme.

  2. Formalize will direct you to the corresponding asset or action (e.g., creating a policy, assigning a control, or creating a task).

  3. Once the required setup or action is completed in the platform, return to the Guide and check the checkbox next to the theme to mark it as complete.

Note: Progress tracking is shared across your workspace. Marking a theme as complete updates the status for all users with access to your Formalize account.

Common Questions

  1. If I complete a Guide, does it mean my company is fully compliant with the regulation?

Not necessarily. Guides provide operational framework direction and best practices, but they do not constitute formal legal or regulatory consultancy. Because compliance depends on your company's unique context, you remain responsible for ensuring all regulatory requirements are fully satisfied.
